I’ve just finished one of the most painful shifts I’ve ever encountered. On my way to the bus stop, I met eyes with a homeless who gave me the loveliest smile! My evening was automatically brightened. I gave him my change and we ended up talking for 20 minutes about my trip to India next year. He gave me information that I wasn’t even aware of! In the end he was left with some money and I was left with something to remember.
I could have easily did what every other person usually does to him (as he said himself), but I didn’t. I’m glad I didn’t. It just proves you can’t judge someone by their current situation and appearance, because he was nicer than the majority of strangers that I’ve ever met.
Religion has expanded so much from the beginning of civilisation to the present. We now have a wider range of religions, followed by millions of people and increasing everyday. To one extent this may be good; religion creates faith within people who may have been lost. In addition to this, religion can also be seen as a key component to abolishing racism through uniting members of numerous races. However, religion also seems to have a greater impact on society. It can be seen as a very influential factor in causing conflict around the world. For example, between the everlasting disputes of Christians and Muslims; massacres between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. In addition to this, it has also been the fuel which has led to the rise of terrorist groups such as Al Queda.
What are your opinions?
Happiness is a feeling which seems to be more a nostalgic and distant memory to many. Riding the tubes through Central London almost everyday further reinforces my initial ideas; the majority of people seen look stressed, unhappy, or a combination of all three. It’s a shame though, because to some extent i can understand why this may be.
Pressures throughout our everyday lives whether this may be studying, working or even both, may lead us to forgetting happiness. However, amidst these obstacles we face in life, priceless moments, objects and people around us shouldn’t be forgotten.
This isn’t to say that I do not acknowledge how hard it is to find a positive in a situation which seems to pose nothing but the absolute contrast. Nevertheless, pausing the lives we lead even for a moment may make all the difference. It may also help us establish and become more grateful for the things we are fortunate enough to have; rather than focus on those things we are unable to do at this particular moment in time.
I’m not trying to change anyone’s lies drastically; however I am merely asking to whom it may concern to smile. Happiness is priceless. Additionally, it can make the darkest situations that little bit brighter.
Success is defined as:
The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
I genuinely believe the meaning of this has diminished. Nowadays people associate success, or being successful, with extreme amount of wealth; to some extent this could be seen as an important part of it. However, this isn’t the case in my opinion.
What makes success such a righteous
experience is the achievement. The satisfaction of knowing you have reached a destination through hard work. For this reason when people tell me they want to achieve success through winning the lottery, media and fame, I simply can’t listen. An outcome without anything to show for it seems worthless; rather short lived also.
The question we must ask ourselves is how we are going to achieve success not simply state it must be done. Talk with no action is futile. Giving yourself a task which you endeavour to complete provides purpose, in addition to being able to develop self motivation and a strong mind. Regardless of how many times one may fail this does not inhibit the chances of success, until the person refuses to continue to exert effort.
Effort also aids success; it does not come overnight. This is why we are constantly told to continue to attempt something we truly desire. The greatest minds achieved this position through effort, although it may not seem this way.
I leave you with this. How much effort are you currently putting into a goal, in order to achieve success? How long have you been striving for success? Answering these two questions and acting upon it will help you reach that beautiful point in life we all long for.
